Speed Test Instructions (Linksys Router)
A speed test measures the download (from the internet) and upload (to the internet) speeds of your network. It measures the rate of data between Community Fibre's internet connection on our network and your primary router (the one connected to your modem).
We recommend that you test this on your chosen device and then via. the web browser (instructions below). The speeds shown on each of these tests can differ due to the speed being divided to the devices you have connected at any given time.
In other words, this speed test measures the speed between our network (via. your modem) and your router. There are numerous possible factors that may affect the speed of your network from the router to your chosen devices (such as interference from other networks, thick walls or other physical obstructions, as well as transmissions from Bluetooth connections and other devices.)
Running a Speed Test from the Linksys App
- On a mobile device connected to your existing network, tap the Linksys app icon.
- You will be prompted to Log in. Please tap the Log in with Router Password link and not the blue “Log in” button.
For instructions on how to recover your admin password, please see ‘How to login to the Linksys App with Admin Password Recovery’ on the Linksys Velop FAQ.
- Tap the Menu icon.
- Tap Speed Check.
The speed check will automatically begin.
Download Speed - The rate at which internet content is transferred to your Velop system.
Upload Speed - How quickly you can upload content to the internet.
Ping (latency) - Measured in milliseconds (ms). It is the amount of time it takes for data to travel from Community Fibre’s servers to your network.
Jitter - the variation in the latency on a packet flow between two systems when some packets take longer to travel from one system to the other. It can result from network congestion, timing drift and route changes.
Packet loss - occurs when one or more packets of data travelling across a computer network fail to reach their destination, either caused by errors in data transmission, typically across wireless networks, or network congestion. Here, it is measured as a percentage of packets lost with respect to packets sent

Running a Speed Test from a Web Browser
In order to run a Speed Check from your web browser, please follow these steps:
1. On your web browser of choice, please navigate to http://192.168.1.1
2. Click ‘Continue to Linksys Smart Wi-Fi’
3. You will be prompted to Log in. Please tap the Log in with Router Password link and not the blue “Log in” button.
For instructions on how to recover your admin password, please see ‘How to login to the Linksys App with Admin Password Recovery)’ in our Linksys FAQ.
4. Select ‘Speed Check’ from the Dashboard
The speed check will automatically begin. It will first test your Ping. Ping is the speed to the servers and is important especially for online gamers.
Then Download Speed:
And finally, Upload Speed.
It will then present the results:
If you are testing your speed on a reasonably new device with a wired connection into the router (i.e. not Wi-Fi) with all other programs and users shut down, you should expect to see packet loss of less than 0.1%, Ping (Latency) below 10mS and Jitter below 2ms.
Once you have completed your speed test please send your results by clicking "Submit a request" below so our friendly team of London-based support staff can assist you further.
